SUBJECT: “IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.”

“For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” 1 Corinthians 11:26 NIV

When I was a child, I grew up afraid to touch the communion table. I remember that it was a beautiful dark brown wood table with an inscription that read “IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.” I was never told why I could not touch the table. But, I knew if I touched it, I would get tagged by any adult who saw me touching it. I also noticed that the same table was used for Holy Communion on the first Sunday only. Now that I am an adult, equipped with more spiritual and theological knowledge of “IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME,” things are different.

I have learned that we should never forget as Christians to observe Holy Communion-Last Supper as often as every Sunday. It symbolized the deliverance of the Israelites. It was their Passover meal; until JESUS fulfilled the Promise. The celebration changed and came to a full circle at the sacrificial death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Then as “often” as you celebrate, this sacred occasion took on a new meaning. It means Christians are witnesses to the Gospel of JESUS CHRIST until He returns. That is our hope and eternal salvation. JESUS solidified that hope when He said, ” This was the last time He would drink that cup with His disciples in this life, but that He would return someday and drink it with them again.” (Luke 22:18).

That one day, His glorious return is closer now than the day JESUS told His disciples. I knew that not touching that communion table symbolized respect for our Holy GOD at that church. I also know that the inscription was a visual scripture reminder to celebrate and observe Holy Communion-Last Supper. And I know Holy Communion-Last Supper can be done as often as you desire. First Sunday is excellent, and so is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. As long as your heart is sincere and your purpose is all about “IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME,” GOD will honor it, and you will be Blessed in overflow.

Remember:

JESUS promised that He is coming back again, and He is coming for those who remember

“IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.” The Promise for born-again Christians is we will eat of the bread and drink of the cup with Him in heaven forever.
