What is Family of Origin? Are you familiar with your Family of Origin? The simplest definition for Family of Origin is “the family you were born in or adopted into. It is the people who raised you, the ones whom you spent your childhood, and young adult life with. The good news about Family of Origin is that it shapes who you are and can affect who you become.
Your beliefs, your values, and your rules from the family you grew up in can be passed down from one generation to the next. And, that affects your life-long belief system. While Family of Origin is designed by GOD to build strong life-bearing foundations, it can also be toxic with the covering of GOD. All your life-long background is your Family of Origin. So if your family lived a dedicated life to the LORD in word and deeds, more than likely, you will, too, and your next generation. It is the same as if your family was disconnected from the LORD; chances are you will be, too, in some way, as well as your next generation.
Your upbringing and how you were raised, whether positive or negative, will contribute to your adult life. Why? Because your biological parents, adopted parents, adult guardians, or whoever raised you, it is their core beliefs that shaped your core beliefs. I hear you saying…”Oh, that's not the truth.” Ok, let’s do a fact-check. Why is it that when you are grown and gone, how you were raised becomes your way of life, and your holiday traditions are still a part of your life?
So that says whoever your parents were is the main core shaper of your family’s beliefs. It means it forms your thoughts on how to be human and have a purpose in life. Those characteristics will majorly influence what you learn and how you develop into a positive, life-giving individual. This is just an introduction to provoke your thinking on how a healthy or unhealthy Family of Origin is started.

“EVERYONE’S” Family of Origins starts with GOD and ends with GOD whether we acknowledge it or not.
