"Let us therefore celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth." 1 Corinthians 5:8. ESV

MAY WE NEVER FORGET. . .May we always remember June 19, 1865, the Emancipation Day…Freedom Day or Jubilee Day, depending on which state you live in. And if you live in the state of Texas, it's called JUNETEENTH! It all started with the African American slaves in Galveston, TX., when they discovered two years after President Lincoln had issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, that slavery had been abolished.
Fast forward, Juneteenth was not legally recognized as a national holiday until June 17, 2021. President Joe Biden signed the bill that officially designated June 19 as a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in America. Then, in 1980, Democratic state representative Al Edwards and the Texas Legislature made Juneteenth an official state holiday. May we never forget all of those who lobbied to ensure that Juneteenth is recognized as a Special Day in Texas.
Fun Fact: Juneteenth is celebrated with traditional African American foods like barbecue, red beans, collard greens, tea cakes, watermelon, and strawberry soda, symbolizing strength and courage.
Remember:
Juneteenth is a day of joyful education, deep reflection on the past, cultural appreciation for today, and hope for true liberation in the future. Remember, and MAY WE NEVER FORGET.
Prayer:
Thank you for liberating all your enslaved dear children in America. FATHER, may your plan, purpose, and will be done for all your children who were set free by your power and authority. - In His Holy name, Amen.

Food For Thought:
"Juneteenth has never been a celebration of victory or an acceptance of the way things are. Instead, it's a celebration of progress. It's an affirmation that despite the most painful parts of our history, things do get better. America can change. "— Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States, Civil Rights Attorney.
