SUBJECT: “BLACK HISTORY STILL MATTERS.”

“Only be on your guard and diligently watch yourselves, so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen, and so that they do not slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and grandchildren." -Deuteronomy 4:9

OMI | GRATITUDE IN THE VALLEY

Black History is American History untaught in private and public schools across America. And it matters because it’s Black History in White America. I am honored that, once a year, Black Americans take the opportunity to celebrate and highlight the past and present achievements and struggles of Black people. However, there is one problem with observing the many accomplishments of Black people in just one month. Everyone does not get celebrated. Black History is a History Book and class all by itself. It has many records of resilience and creativity that are worth teaching.

Those beautiful, sad stories remind us that equal progress in America has always been an intentional oversight. The select contributions written about by select people intentionally looked past a very powerful, less-looked-at race that happened to be Black in their traditional history narratives. But it has been discovered that Black History is a true power-backed history that is feared to be taught in schools because of the truth it carries. Black History simply says that every story matters. White History and Black History in America.

Black people in America will never forget the fragility of their proud history. This is why Black History being taught in schools is essential because it has the potential to heal, transform, and set free those in racist bondage. Black History doesn’t offer pretty teaching. It offers a resented truth that is complex and painful. It’s a core truth that reminds America that progress has always been born from facing the truth in the face of impossibility. Black History matters because it keeps us honest and transparent. It teaches us to care enough to learn together, to listen together, and to change the trajectory of lies over truth.

Remember:

BLACK HISTORY reminds us that in the face of every obstacle, Black people have a spirit of resilience, creativity, and endurance that still rises.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly FATHER,

Thank You for inspiring Moses to teach your dear children the importance of not forgetting the past and its meaning to remember. It is still working for us. Now. - In JESUS' matchless and holy name, Amen.

Food For Thought:

“Won’t it be wonderful when Black history and Native American history and Jewish history and all of U.S. history are taught from one book. Just U.S. history.” ~Maya Angelou
